Grade 9 visual artist Geneva Ge grew up in an environment where everything was seen through the "artist’s" eye, from the smallest detail to the biggest picture. Geneva has been drawing for her entire life; however, instead of focusing on achieving the final product, she enjoys the process without worrying about the specific aspect. As Geneva begins to develop more of her talent, she realized that instead of being prideful enough to think that she can teach herself, she needs to rely on the available resources and keep trying her best to push her limits. With little stress coming from the artist’s academic and athletic, she’s got a good amount of free time, so instead of wasting them, she wants to dedicate it to art more than ever by channelling her passion into her works of art.
“Art is an expression of the soul, but at the same time, the feeling of creating on its own is beautiful and severely underrated,” Geneva stated, “The creation of something from concept and idea is such a unique and intimate expression, and a thought I think everyone should be aware of.” As for advice, the artist would like to ensure everyone would try to create boldly and without fear. The fear of judgement and not being good enough often throws artists off. It’s difficult getting past it, but once you realize that improvement is the thing to strive for, not perfection, then it’ll help you along just fine.

Throughout the years, there are a lot of artists that Geneva had been influenced by, but currently, she’s into figurative art. For example, Anna ‘Bjerger’s artworks are excellent in terms of perspectives and techniques; she’d highly recommend checking out her works. There are definitely helpful things to consider when being influenced by an artist, but at the same time, she realized that their work is only supposed to help guide her through creating her own pieces. Geneva’s favourite mediums at the moment are conte, chalk, and charcoal on grey-toned paper. She finds those mediums to bring new depths and layers into her work. In addition, the artist is looking forward to experimenting with acrylic, as it’s quite a steadfast medium with interesting qualities.
Looking ahead into the future, Geneva had taken part in all the art shows that have been linked to her art class, but recently she’s been considering exhibiting on her own. Art will definitely be something Geneva would pursue, and she has high hopes for herself and will continue to incorporate art as much as possible into her life.
