Mahasti Mofazali

For 26 years, Madame Mofazali has been a cornerstone of the Collingwood community, sharing her talents and passions with students and colleagues alike. Born in Iran and now rooted in Vancouver, her career blends a penchant for French literature, teaching, and a love for both visual and culinary arts. She also shares with the world a universal love for dogs and music. Beyond her professional life, she finds joy in her family—her architect husband and two daughters, both Collingwood graduates who immersed themselves in visual and performing arts.
Art has always been central to Madame Mofazali’s life. With a deep admiration for French Impressionists like Monet and Degas, she often draws inspiration from Monet’s iconic water lilies, channeling their serenity into her own work. “What emotions or thoughts were on Monet’s mind as he painted his gardens at Giverny?” she wonders, reflecting on the depth of expression in his pieces.

Primarily working with acrylics and oil but having dabbled in all mediums, she finds art to be therapeutic. “Painting and culinary arts keep me grounded,” she says, highlighting her creative pursuits' impact on her beyond the canvas. This past summer, she completed over 30 paintings—a record that she writes made for one of the most relaxing and fulfilling periods of her life.
For Madame Mofazali, art is much more than a hobby. “Art reflects my personality and feelings by revealing my inner world and emotions,” she explains. She invites viewers into her serene world through her work, often pairing her social media posts with soothing music to create an immersive experience.
When asked for advice to budding artists, she emphasizes the importance of taking risks and seeking mentorship. “There will be moments of frustration, but eventually, you’ll get it right,” she advises, encouraging young artists to embrace growth through perseverance and feedback. Madame mentions turning to fellow teacher Ms. Karimi for feedback on her work, explaining how someone who is skilled can offer new insights one might not see themselves.

As retirement approaches (we’re all crying), Madame Mofazali envisions a future where art remains at the forefront of her life, possibly through commissions, but first and foremost, as a fulfilling pastime. “Art will fill the gap,” she says with certainty, knowing that her passion for creativity will continue to sustain her for years to come. The Collingwood community will be tuning in to her creative endeavors, wherever they lead her!
