Inarvis Diaz
by Grace Yao
Señor Diaz is primarily a literary artist. His family members work in numerous different fields, but they all have one thing in common: bringing their art and creativity to life in their work.
As a Spanish teacher, Señor Diaz enjoys learning and teaching languages. Since learning has always been a passion for him, he is expanding his knowledge into the fields of Biology, Physics, Statistics, and Computer Science—specifically artificial intelligence, as he uses it in an educational setting to enhance his students’ learning and keep them engaged. For example, Señor Diaz used AI to create a game named “El Topo” for his classes.
Outside of creating art and teaching, he has a very active lifestyle, as being active clears his head and sparks creative ideas. Señor Diaz spends his time weight training, running, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and travelling. His favourite sports are baseball and cricket as he’s played both. Currently, he is Collingwood’s cricket coach and has been for several years.
Señor Diaz writes fiction the most, as it is the genre he feels most comfortable exploring. In addition, he also loves the freedom to blur the lines between reality and fantasy when telling stories to express himself and evoke “a sense of wonder in my readers.” One of Señor Diaz’s go-to methods for starting a new project is to sit down, write down the random stream of consciousness running through his mind, and then look at the themes and ideas that emerged. Additionally, he also likes to turn ideas over in his mind on his way to work or discuss them with others. Just last year, he finished writing his first novel, “Entangled” and it is going to be published soon (an excerpt is provided here).
As for the types of art that Señor Diaz enjoys, he likes all forms of art, from classic to contemporary, as each form is unique. Two of his favourite movements are the Mexican Muralist and the Surrealist movement.
One of Señor Diaz’s main inspirations is his friend Barbara McCauley, an artist and a teacher like him. This is because her outlook on art, painting, and life is one of the reasons Señor Diaz chose to pursue writing even though it was not a requirement of his professional training. If he could ask McCauley one question, he would ask her for one piece of advice she wish she knew earlier in her artistic journey.
Señor Diaz believes that art is an expression of feelings and personality, as “it’s a reflection of who we are, what we experience, and how we see the world.” It is also a way to communicate with others, as art is a powerful universal language that can convey emotions, ideas, and “profound themes that strike at the heart of human experience.” He views this ability to connect with others and tell creative stories as the most important aspect of art. For any aspiring artists out there, Señor Diaz would advise you to “practice regularly, experiment without fear, and trust the process. Art isn’t about perfection; it’s about growth and expression.”
