Growing up in Vancouver Canada, Alison always knew that she wanted to work in art or fashion. From kindergarten all the way to graduation, this much-admired Collingwood lifer left her mark as an aspiring artist. While chasing her dreams to the world of an artist, Alison had the support of her family. Although her sisters were significantly older and not many other family members had an artistic side, Alison stuck with her passion and has now finished her degree. She is now associating with Twitch and testing the waters with live-streaming her amazing Art.
From the day Alison could hold a pencil, she was drawing. This being said, her initial inspiration did not come from a certain person, place, event, or thing; rather, maybe simple fate chose this activity for her. Although Alison's biggest passion is her art and she is very talented at what she does, it is crucial for everyone to be able to find a balance in life. Focusing on just one activity can lead to a loss of motivation whereas diversity can increase creativity and innovation. For Alison, this brings out a whole different side of her personality. Alison describes herself as a “huge nerd” when talking about some of her hobbies other than art. She enjoys playing video games, watching sci-fi or fantasy related TV shows and movies, and has an interest in manga and anime. Other than this, lately this talented artist has been streaming videogames, cooking, crafting, as well as her art online on her Twitch.tv channel (www.twitch.tv/yozypost). This has really created a community for her and like-minded people to express themselves and experience the activities that they enjoy.
Growing up and while at Collingwood, Alison dreamed of going into art or fashion, but those goals slipped out of her control for a while as she decided to study psychology. Now that she has finished her degree, Alison is continuing with her live-streaming and working on her Portfolio to dive into the art world 100%.

Since art is the main focus in Alison Powroznik’s life, she has her personal opinions and preferences on art. She describes her general view towards art as “idyllic” that touches her with a “whimsical ideal”. This being said, she also understands the individuality that art and artists have. All intentions and emotions that are put into works of art are different and can be difficult to understand or explain. Since they are so complicated to really explain correctly, every viewer will understand a different piece in a different way; therefore, it will affect them in a different way. Unlike a sport where most people will have the same reaction to their team scoring a goal, art will touch on people’s past experiences and how it relates to every person will be different at different points in their life. In Alison’s case, when viewing art, she lets it connect to her inner emotions as she looks at the aesthetic, leading to new analysis and appreciation of the work. Concerning her own art, Alison does not present a plot or explanation beyond the subject matter and her drawings tend to be more straightforward.
Although her art is amazing and aesthetically pleasing to all, Alison has not always had the mastery of practice and experience that she has now. Just as Alison was once young and an artistic novice, there are many budding artists now who are developing their skills and finding their inspiration. Her professional advice could really send a new artist into the field in the right direction. For any beginners or even current artists struggling with original ideas, Alison suggests choosing a subject from a favourite TV show or from a favourite artist. Alison explains that when she was younger and working on her skills she would practice by copying images. Since the beginning, she felt a need to express a point of view and look and with that she stuck with it and developed her own style. An artist’s style is like their signature on a piece of artwork: it’s what makes it come from them. Although, some artists have similar styles, the best have an original and different approach to what they create. It can be difficult to have a reason and meaning to need to make art and to find an individual particularity to one’s art. This is why Alison recommends starting to practice with inspiration that the artist already enjoys.
Although Alison never needed a reason to start art, she has had some major influences throughout her life. Earlier on in her life, these influences included video games such as the Final Fantasy Series. Yoshitaka Amano was the concept artist for these games and his was the first art that really left a mark on Alison's journey. After first encountering the work by Yoshitaka Amano, Alison has always been drawn to Japanese art and it can be seen as an influence in many of her drawings.
Japanese art is one among many different styles of art. As well as there being countless styles of art, there are many different mediums that an artist may choose to use. Some examples include: oils, charcoal, clay, watercolour, and there are many more. Alison is currently in a phase of pens and markers – more specifically, Copic and Prismacolor markers, Stabilo and gel pens.
As for her favourite style, Alison has always been interested in the era of Art Nouveau and she describes it as a “golden age for illustration” which had a strong connection with her ongoing interest in Japanese culture. Mixing that with a Western fairy tale look is something that is working very well in Alison’s art.
As you can see some of Alison’s artwork on this page, her favourites are the Alexander McQueen and the Rodarte portraits. This is because she feels as though she has really pushed herself with details and attention to detail.
