Collingwood School is blessed to have a brilliant and gifted group of students pursuing arts. Each student brings to the table an amazing array of skills and Grade 10 student Michael O’Neill is no exception. Michael is one of Collingwood’s consummate actors. He started acting as soon as the opportunity presented itself in Grade 8, when he arrived at Morven and has been in every play since. His performance in Any Number Can Die was magnificent. Michael shares with us that he enjoys acting because he loves connecting with a group of people to achieve a common goal. He also enjoys working with students in the arts who he amiably describes as “open and kind”.

Mr. Wener, Collingwood’s Drama teacher, is known for casting his plays with people whose persona is already reflective in some form of the role. To this end, Michael’s favourite roles he has played were in The Farnsworth Invention and Any Number Can Die. He emulates the scientist in The Farnsworth Invention because he loves science and math, but he is quite the opposite of the antagonist he played in Any Number Can Die.
Aside from acting, Michael enjoys watching films. His favourite actor is Matt Damon. He admires his acting skills and the roles he has played, particularly in The Martian and The Bourne Series. Michael has a high regard for Matt’s lasting dedication and enthusiasm for his craft.
Michael’s advice for people who want to act is “Audition! See where it takes you.” Michael favourite quote is "Good things happen when you show up." His parting words for the readers are “before you graduate audition for a play at least once! You’re given the chance outside [of Collingwood] very rarely.”
