Anoushka Taylor is a phenomenal artist graduating Collingwood this year. Throughout her high school career, she has shown her artistic abilities in multiple ways, extending beyond just photography and excelling as a professional artist. Anoushka is also involved with the performing arts — playing both the acoustic and electric guitar. Needless to say, Anoushka Taylor is one of Collingwood’s most impressive artistic talents.
Her passion for photography stemmed from a trip to India. She had always been intrigued by photography and was often the designated photographer at family events, but it wasn’t until her trip to India in the spring of 2019 when this mere interest sparked into a passion. Over the years, she has honed her skills to produce more professional-like photos. Now, she is an extremely talented photographer and a proud owner of three film cameras and two digital cameras.
Much of Anoushka’s inspiration comes from the world around her, as well as other fellow artists. One of her favourite artists is Annie Liebovitz, an American portrait photographer. Anoushka admires the sophisticated way she captures expression and human features. Architectural elements can often be found in Anouska’s work; she can be found walking around Downtown Vancouver, pulling inspiration from the architecture around her. There isn’t a specific type of photography that Anoushka specializes in, but her current favourites are portraits and landscapes.

“Photography to me is capturing moments around me as I grow up and as I travel the world. It is something physical that holds the memories of each trip I have been on, it also is a captivating way to capture the humans around me that are with me while I grow up.”
It isn’t uncommon for teenagers to have trouble expressing their feelings. To Anoushka, photography is so much more than just a set of shutters closing and opening. It is an outlet to express herself creatively whenever she has trouble figuring out a way to convey her feelings. She believes that our world needs photography because it is capable of capturing the moment — a fraction of a second — and making that moment last forever. It is able to conceal a message yet convey it so clearly at the same time, which is what makes photography so special. Anoushka believes that people need to realize that photography is not something that is out of reach; it is much more accessible than we think. There is no reason to shy away from getting a good photo when you are just a click of a button on your iPhone away.
Anoushka’s advice is to stay open to trying new things and not to be afraid of making mistakes. In her words, “be open to new ideas and new genres. Keep an open mind whenever going into a project, and don’t be afraid to mess up as you can grow as a photographer from this.”

In the future, Anoushka plans to keep pursuing art and photography on the side. She is excited to graduate this year and see what the future will bring.
