Tatiana Mawani graduated from Collingwood School two years ago as a beloved member of the Class of ’12. She is now studying business at UBC Sauder School of Business. She has taken part in many service initiatives at Collingwood, including our Thunderbird Mentoring Program and the Soup Kitchen, and was a delegate to various Round Square conferences.
Between work, school, watching the Bachelorette, sleeping, and catching up with her friends, Tatiana has little spare time. Although she describes her life as being jam-packed, this Collingwood alumnus usually finds time to sing wherever she is – in the shower, in the car, anywhere!

“I wouldn't say that I ‘sing’”, Tatiana says, “I just like to sing! I guess I've been singing since I was born, but just in the shower and in my bedroom when nobody can hear.” Her voice is a kind of personal instrument for Tatiana, and a very unique one because she can make music with it practically anywhere. Although she wouldn’t describe herself as being a “singer”, her passion for singing for enjoyment has led her to create numerous covers on Garageband.
Thanks mainly to her mom, Tatiana was able to find her enthusiasm for singing: “My mom would always be humming, and so I guess I got it from her!” She likes how it is so carefree, and how for whatever mood she is in, she can find a song to match it or to pull her out of it. Personally, Tatiana thinks that “Happy” by Pharrell Williams is “probably the best song ever made”.

When asked of any plans with regards to singing for the future, the artist jokingly responded that she would definitely continue singing in the shower. She plans also to make more covers just for the fun of it, and to keep listening to “Happy”.
Tatiana is a positive and supportive member of the Collingwood community. Having been in her AP Economics class in her grad year, I have no doubt that she would continue to spread her enthusiasm for the activities she pursues in general and towards singing in particular. She is someone who puts her utmost effort into everything she does, and the art community of Collingwood wishes her all the best in her personal, artistic, and academic careers.
