A major star athlete at Collingwood, Grace Thompson is best known for her incredible achievements on the race track; however, few know that Grace is in fact also an amazing artist. At times when Grace’s rigorous athletic life becomes too much, she unwinds with some great music and a sketchbook. Her skills at sketching is by far a natural talent that she has perfected through art classes at Collingwood school. Never having had any formal training outside of school, Grace’s talents in painting and drawing are an inspiration to all of us who have also taken art classes through Collingwood.
Grace’s favourite subject matter are portraits and her favourite style of art is Modern Art. When visiting an art gallery in London, Grace was inspired by Andy Warhol’s painting “Jagger”; its sheer size was “awe-inspiring”. Using Warhol’s artistic style as inspiration, Grace’s AP Art Portfolio consists of many different portraits in various artistic styles. She will be using this portfolio to apply to several universities, but other than that, art for her is purely a way to relax and to express herself. In the future, Grace will not be taking her artistic talent to a professional level, but is planning on sketching recreationally for a while. We are all expecting to see Grace on television as a world-class athlete, but perhaps we will also see her showcasing her amazing paintings.
