Pete Zhang is currently a grade twelve student at Collingwood. He is well known by his friends and throughout the school community for his wonderful photography and artistic skill. Pete came to Canada when he was in Grade 4 and has thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of living here, especially the great Canadian outdoors, which helped hearten his passion in nature photography. Although Pete only started to pursue photography when he was in grade 11 he takes great pride in being able to produce artistic images of nature that he believes “can speak a thousand words”. From small detailed photos to large open scale landscape photos, he tries to capture an array of outdoor images. Nature photography has definitely become Pete’s favorite subject matter, but he also likes to explore portraiture and urban photography.

When Pete is not engaged in photography, he enjoys many other hobbies including going to the gym, swimming, art, watching films and traveling. Although Pete has not pursued photography for a great length of time he says his photographic pursuits have opened up other future career paths. He says his experience in photography is beneficial in many professions as a desired skill set. He thoroughly enjoys how it has enabled him to capture beautiful, fleeting moments in nature, and derives great pleasure knowing his photographs can leave a lasting impact on his viewers.
Pete is an accomplished Collingwood artist and has been regularly featured in the school art show and is proud to have received School Colours in Art. Outside of school, Pete has also had two successful exhibitions over the past year. Both of his exhibitions were environmentally themed. Pete was thrilled when he sold a piece of his nature photography last year to donate towards the David Suzuki Foundation. In the future, Pete wants to continue his love of photography. He says that even if he doesn’t become a professional photographer, he will always have his camera ready to take photos of the world.
