Do you know a student who is an athlete, an excelling student, a rock climber, a music producer, AND an artist? Nick Somers, a grade 12 student who is often seen on the soccer field, is one of the hidden but very talented artists of Collingwood.
Nick regards art as anything that a person is able to create. From the simplest photography to everyday sketches, Nick believes that everything has its place under the broad spectrum of art. Nick holds the belief that as long as artists are enjoying themselves, they should just keep going and never give up.

Being such a successful artist, Nick nonetheless has many influences in his artistic career. The number one person he would like to acknowledge is his mother, who is also an outstanding artist and a big influence to Nick – art is in his genes!
Nick suggests to fellow artists that they should draw ideas not only from their own selves, but also from public websites such as Pinterest and Flickr, which are just a couple of the soaring publication websites for artists today.

Nick’s favorite medium is his Micro Pen; he describes it as the most versatile tool and he loves drawing abstract landscapes in his sketchbook with this Micro Pen. Nick’s style is abstract, but he also dabbles in realism when he is working with portraits.
The pieces that Nick presents are all just everyday drawings he creates out of his imagination and relaxation. When he starts a landscape painting, he does not make a plan: they just seem to flow out of his hand and onto the page. Another style Nick really likes is the set drawings, but he dislikes the fact that once he starts, it becomes difficult to alter the pieces.
Nick has some big plans coming up: his future aspirations are to go into the Arts, more specifically geography, communications, and social science at Western, UBC, SFU, or UVic. We wish him luck in his future pursuits and aspirations!
