Taisha Wayrynen (Taisha Teal) is a very talented Collingwood alumni artist who has taken her passion to the next level. She was born in Vancouver, BC where she is now working towards a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and Adolescent Psychology. Her studies are specified for her dream to combine her two interests to open a counselling center that features Art Therapy in order to help children who have experienced trauma. It is no surprise how Taisha Teal has developed so many skills in this field considering she was surrounded by art and artists since the day she was born. Other than experimenting with different mediums, she also enjoys playing volleyball, jet skiing, hiking, swimming, skiing and camping!
To truly understand what art means to Taisha I think it is important to read her artistic statement:
“My vision with art is to induce positive emotions and radiate inspiration with every brush stroke, to expose the creativity in everyone. A feeling always inspires me; my favorites to draw from are love, peace, gratitude and happiness.
Throughout my childhood, my mother, being the incredible artist that she is, would fill our house with love and gratitude, by writing in every closet in our house ‘Love, Peace, Gratitude, Harmony.’ My siblings and I would see this message every morning when we got up to change before school filling our hearts and minds with positivity daily.
All my surroundings, from friends and family to school and nature to love and light inspire me to conceive each individual piece of art from the bottom of my heart.
Art is art; there is no good or bad, it all depends on your psyche and how you perceive it. My motto is ‘Nothing is impossible, there is always a way to succeed. It all depends on what path one wants to take and what direction one is heading.’
I believe I am in a new chapter of my life. After a near death experience earlier this fall, I am blessed for every day that I wake up breathing. I am constantly training my mind to see the positive in every situation no matter what the outcome. This is my main objective and what I hope convey through every piece; to create art that transforms the thoughts of individuals and their perspective of the world.”
As Taisha has spent many hours to overcome challenges, she has some wise advice for budding artists: be creative and don’t let anybody shut you down. Taisha herself has not let anyone shut her down, and instead her mother has definitely lifted her up in her career. As her mother and sister share the same passion, this has created an unbreakable bond among the three of them.

Recently Taisha has been working on pop icons and has glued jewelry onto the paintings to make them stand out more. Another piece she has worked on lately was a series with Burt’s Bees using all their lipsticks and chap sticks. The paintings were auctioned off and the profits were sent to the Wildlife Center. Her favorite of all these as well as many other greatly viewed masterpieces was a more recent painting of Marilyn Monroe because she combined many styles and it has received a lot of positive feedback!
Taisha recently had a show at the Vancouver Convention Center for Art! Vancouver, which is an annual local and international art fair featuring artists and galleries from all over the world, such as China, Spain, Israel, France, Canada and the US. Her theme this year was black and white for the show and she completed a series of half-naked ladies, which was done with charcoal.
At the show, a company called "Art Meets Chocolate" put several artists’ photos on their chocolate and one of her other Marilyn photos was featured. She also had the opportunity to be interviewed with her sister Sky for Breakfast TV, which was played on the "City TV" channel.
Taisha’s next show is at the Vancouver Convention Center for the Canada Day celebration: July 1st from 10am to 6pm. Taisha excitedly says, “I will have few of my pieces there for the show if anyone would like to come visit!”
Her art is also featured in the Hollyburn Country Club, as well as in New York where a collector has chosen her art to be shown at his private show. For this, she specifically made a Canadian piece with spray-painted hearts in the background and the outline of the maple leaf on top.
