“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” ----- Aristotle
Focusing on the theme of depARTure, the Collingwood art show on May 21st, 2014 was a celebration of the work of Collingwood’s visual artists, hearkening from grades eight to twelve. From creative digital designs and aesthetic photographs to realistic portraits and abstract paintings, the show consisted of numerous art medias.
There were indeed many visitors at the art show! Everyone enjoyed the interactive art station, henna station and of course, the button maker station. An entire whiteboard in one of the art classrooms was covered in red and white paper for visitors to draw and colour on. Some of the quick sketches at the interactive art station were gorgeous! Not only did the Collingwood students demonstrate their vibrant artistic skills, the visitors also sat down at the henna station to have some cool designs drawn onto their hands. Furthermore, during the two hour at the show, there was always a big crowd around the button maker station, waiting for Siu Lee and Sabrina Wang to draw their portraits or caricatures to be made into buttons. Before leaving the art show, almost everyone had a button on his or her shirt or jeans as a souvenir.

Apart from viewing the photographs, graphic designs, painting and sketches, visitors also enjoyed drinks, appetizers and even do-it-yourself sundaes! Just like last year, we had the live DJ in one of the art rooms to complement all of the amazing artworks. This certainly heightened the experience. As a memory for the last exhibition to take place before moving into the new campus, there was also a photo booth for visitors to take pictures in. There were huge frames, construction hats and neon safety vests as props to help to emphasize the theme of depARTure at the show.
The 2014 Collingwood Art Show was a phenomenal success. Heartfelt thanks go to all the art teachers and members of the art committee for making the art show such an enjoyable and fascinating experience.
