Ryan Neale was born in Vancouver before emigrating to live in London, England. During his time in Europe, he travelled the continent extensively and was inspired by the diverse and extraordinary landscapes he observed on his journeys. Ryan returned to Vancouver a few years ago where he was immediately captivated by the wilderness and coastlines of British Columbia. He has become an avid photographer of the wilds and likes to call his pictorial style as, “capturing moments”.
Ryan’s first experience with photography was capturing a poignant dog rescue. When he took the photograph, he admits he had no technical skills taking photos at that time and was simply capturing the moment as it unfolded. He claims, “My developed artistic vision paved the way to my passion”. Ryan’s grandparents were both “avid enthusiasts” of photography and have always supported his photographic pursuits and he appreciates how, “in a way, photography runs in my blood”.
When questioned about the personal significance art has for him, Ryan reveals, “I obviously feel proud about the work I publish”. He further elaborates, “I feel like it is my job… I get paid by feeling that people enjoy my work, that it’s worth spending my time doing what I do”. Ryan further clarifies his perspective on photography, explaining that there is both an “artistic standpoint” and a technical one”. He elaborated that, “In order to create the shot, you have to refine both your artistic and technical skill. It is a direct relationship.” He sees it as an adventure, going out constantly to shoot, connecting with new places and exploring new techniques. He divulges, “I have no intent of stopping what I do. In the words of North Face: Never Stop Exploring”. His favorite genre of photography is landscapes, he explains, with equal parts humor and realism; “I can express the beauty of the world, without going $50,000 in debt”. He also enjoys photographing wildlife in their natural surrounds.
In addition to his love of photography, Ryan is also a provincial swimmer. He is dedicated and committed to the sport and says, “I swim every day for the West Vancouver Otters”. He reveals that he developed his athletic ability playing a variety of sports while in London. We wish Ryan a rewarding swim season and continued success with his photographic pursuits.
