Jade Wang, currently a grade eleven student at Collingwood, captures the attention of many around her by the talent she demonstrates in visual arts. Her art works are undeniably mind-blowing and unique.
Despite her talent in the arts, her family comes from a different background. Her grandfather was an army doctor, and her father is currently in the medicinal industry. Instead, she attributes her success and improvement to the various artists, digital and traditional, that she has found throughout the years. She is also appreciative of school for it has allowed her to build an appreciation for visual arts. She feels that she can always enjoy art and sit through hours of drawing while still be profoundly attracted to the creative process.
With increasing passion, Jade pursues a variety of projects. She is currently working on a lot of different works, including multi-media works, paintings, installations, and architecture or sculpture - her art portfolio conveys a central theme. She has worked with many different mediums – acrylic, graphite, charcoal, pastel, oil paint, watercolor, foam, digital programs – there are numerous more and she feels she could never be able to pick out a favorite. She chooses her mediums based on the type of projects or pieces she does.

When asked about her favorite style of art, however, she states that it is Surrealism. She explains that it is because this particular style can be expressive in the most interesting way. There are fantastical notes mixed in with the reality that give surrealistic art a dream-like visual. It confuses and intrigues the viewers without forcing them to alter their understanding of what they see. For her, art is a way to recuperate from school and work. However, due to outlines and standards proposed by teachers and universities, she sometimes needs to draw things she despises. Nevertheless, it’s the process by which she learns and grows, and she is grateful for this important stage.
In addition to visual arts, Jade likes music and singing. Although she is not in the choir, she catches herself singing everyday and anywhere – in the car or while doing chores or homework. Music is an important component in her life as she always starts her day with 15 minutes of music.
Moving forwards, she intends to pursue art after school, although not likely at an art school. She has academics interests beside arts; she does not want to be limited to one study in university. However, no matter what she does, Jade will continue to elaborately demonstrate her creativity, exhibiting her unique personality and style anywhere she goes.
