There’s a silence, a buzzing lightness in the heavy anticipation. A few trembling seconds pass, then first notes are played. It starts off simple. A few tentative, somber notes. The strings come in, layered on top of the tender notes of the sweet sounding piano. Then it builds. A shift in the capricious waters. A flurry of dissonant chords break the usual flow in a startling clamour, bringing the melody to an upbeat staccato, and the strings follow in the same staggering unison. The cello stars in its own monologue as the curtains are drawn on the piano, the rich sound reverberating from mahogany wood. Myriad sounds living in symbiosis, carefully pieced together by the composer herself, Elisa Sung. 

Aside from her revered talents in musical composition, Elisa likes to indulge in other artistically inclined activities, namely stories and poetry. Whilst Elisa’s serenades in the commons may lead you to believe she’s a seasoned singer, it may come as a surprise that it’s a newfound interest. This newfound interest has lead her into a pivotal role: the leader of the school’s new Karaoke Club. In the rickroll of the penultimate years of school Elisa likes to have a bit of fun and “dance it out” in Karaoke Club. You may also have seen her starring in several of her own personal monologues as she laments over a dying lover. It’s for “recreational purposes” she says, but with that professionalism it hardly seems correct to call it “recreational.”

Elisa plans to pay homage to her “beautiful art form” by pursuing music as a minor in university, specifically musical composition. Music is intrinsic to Elisa and will continue to be so. Whilst it may seem naive to believe that success comes easy, it would be even more naive to believe Elisa Sung will not be the name composer of her generation. Since an official contracted recording may just be several years away, perhaps the recording on her Youtube channel will do so for now.
