Collingwood boasts a wide array of incredibly talented artists, and Amira Vasireddi, an exceptional dancer, is one such gem.
Having been at Collingwood since kindergarten, Amira is a proud lifer. She lives with her parents and grandparents, and she also has an older sister, Anisha, who graduated from Collingwood in 2013. She is thankful for the support of her caring and appreciative family, who has helped her pursue her dreams – every step of the way.
For Amira, art is a way of expressing herself in a way that mere words cannot. Dance has allowed her to express her opinions and emotions through music and dance moves. She doesn’t discriminate against any other forms of art, however, and it is her belief that one can showcase one’s feelings with whatever style of art one enjoys. She advises budding artists to do their best to express their emotions and feelings through their art, as letting out their emotions opens up their style of art to become personal. In her opinion, this is what allows an artist to be different and truly unique.
While there is no particular individual who has influenced Amira to dance, music itself has been a major contribution to her dance career. Amira has always loved music, and she listens to all different styles and genres of music. As she noted, “Music is an important part of dance as it helps share the story you are telling.”
Amira enjoys all styles of dance. She has taken part in contemporary, ballet, lyrical, jazz, and hip-hop, and she finds all of these styles of dance to be really fun. She personally enjoys contemporary and lyrical the most, as she believes that these two styles of dance really allow her to express the story that she is sharing with the audience.

Other than dance, one of Amira’s other main hobbies is travelling. She loves to travel around the world and visit places that she has never been to before. Travelling allows her to visit new cultures and traditions, as well as to connect with different styles of dance that is practiced around the world. “It is a very unique experience seeing how dance is interpreted in different places,” says Amira.
According to Amira, all of the dances she has done in the past have been incredible experiences, and she has had the opportunity to work with a lot of amazing dance teachers along the way. She found that taking dance at Collingwood has been a tremendous opportunity and experience, and one that is different from dance companies outside of school since she can work with her friends.
As for her plans for the future, Amira said that she would definitely love to continue with dance for as long as she can, though she would likely keep it as a hobby, since she does not see herself pursuing dance as a career. She would like to continue her education at a higher level at university, but hopes to keep dance in her life as well.
Collingwood puts on dance shows every year in April, and there is also a student-choreographed show in the last week before December break, in which Amira will be performing. We hope that her performance will be as mind-blowing as usual, and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours!
