Louise moved to Vancouver, Canada from Beijing three years ago, and joined Collingwood last year. Not before long, she wowed us with her artistic talents. If you were at the Art Show last year, there was a good chance that you have already seen Louise’s artworks. As a friend and a fellow art student, I am always amazed by her brilliant work. For example, the value scale portrait of L Lawliet, is one of Louise’s many fine productions.
What is more amazing is that such a talented artist does not take art classes outside of school. Louise’s inspiration comes solely from Japanese Anime, which is productions featuring hand-drawn or computer animations. Anime is often known by its vivid graphics and fascinating characters. To put her love for Anime to use, Louise taught herself how to draw characters in anime style.
Some of Louise’s favourite mediums include pencil crayons and pencils, for their simplicity of use. A year ago, Louise also mastered digital painting skills, as she did not like the texture of pencil crayons when used lightly - they tended to leave tiny negative spaces, which affected the overall drawing. One major difference Louise found between digital painting and physical painting is that when using computer software, she could paint a large area efficiently and easily erase the parts where needed. Louise said that she is still exploring the innumerable features in digital software. However, from her recent digital painting of various characters, it is quite obvious that Louise has acquired substantial digital painting skills.

Well done, Louise! When asked about her favourite artwork, Louise doesn’t hesitate a bit: “Definitely The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali.”
Louise particularly enjoys Dali’s surrealism demonstrated in his paintings, “It makes me feel like time would halt at this very moment and take me to whenever I want to be. It seems simple, but there are profound meanings behind it.”

Like many artists, Louise has her own definition of art.
“Art is creation. It expresses my feelings and makes me happy.” Louise can spend hours and hours working on art without taking a break because of her love for art. As an artist, Louise loves sharing her passion for art and her imagination with others. Despite her phenomenal talent, Louise humbly says that she still needs to improve her painting skills and practice more, which is what I admire her the most as an artist – she always strives to improve and perfect her skills.
As for future projects, Louise would like to continue her series of personified digital painting of each house. If possible, she would also like to create a manga series. Great job Louise! Your imagination and work ethics are truly inspiring. We wish you the best and look forward to your upcoming projects.
Aside from working on her artworks, Louise also enjoys taking classical choir and taekwondo classes, reading good books, and of course, watching anime! Meanwhile, Louise is also an active member of the Anime Club at school, which involves many cosplay events and anime designing. For a true artist like Louise, the sky is the limit.
