If you have had the chance to watch some of the theatre productions at Collingwood for the past couple of years, you would most definitely recognize Tad Kaye. Born and raised in Vancouver, Tad is a current Grade 12. A performing artist enthusiastically involved with school plays, Tad has taken upon some major roles in the productions, including starring as Otto Frank, in the most recently school play, The Diary of Anne Frank.
Aside from being a great performer who is able to impart a strong impact on audiences with his memorable acting on stage, off stage, Tad is also a man with many interests. Involved with sports, Tad enjoys skiing and is currently a member of the Collingwood Alpine Team; he was also a member of the Senior Rugby Team up until Grade 11. Just like many other artists, Tad is fond of music; though he does not play any instruments, Tad is a fan of alternative and indie rock music, his favorite band being the Arctic Monkeys. Occasionally, he also plays video games during his free time. As well, if you were at the Cav Prom 2016 this year, you might have noticed Tad, along with his partner in crime, Liam, entertaining students as the DJ of the night, exhibiting his humorous personality.

Starring in the school plays definitely requires a lot of time and effort. Being Tad’s fellow classmate for the past few years, I have the uttermost respect for Tad regarding his commitment, his dedication and his ability to manage his time between plays and school work. He balanced a tight scheduling, challenging himself academically, in addition to spending time on his university applications. So what does acting mean to Tad as an art, being able to make him overlook those difficulties?
“For me, it is almost a escape for reality. When you are on stage, you just forget about everything else off stage because of the intensity for just being on the stage and the amount of focus and concentration that requires you to get into the character.”
“My favorite genre of plays is the dramatic, which really allows you to see the real emotions of the characters and leaves a strong impact on the audience. Like in Anne Frank, I had to practice the monologue over and over again with Mr. Wener, just to get the right feel and emotion.”

When asked who has influenced him the most on his acting career, Tad answers that it is Mr. Wener who has exposed him to the world of theatre and fellow students in the productions who have inspired him to improve himself for the craft. Mr. Wener was Tad’s Drama teacher in Grade 10 and his words of encouragement for Tad to participate in auditions was the beginning of Tad’s glorious Collingwood acting career. Tad had the chance to meet many other interesting people and wonderful actors and actresses throughout the process of play productions, such as Alex Lara and Dorrin Rey who both graduated from Collingwood last year, and learn from their passion for acting.
A great student and actor, Tad was accepted by Duke University in the U.S. earlier in December. Though acting will not be his major focus of study at Duke, as he will pursue Engineering, Tad hopes to minor in Theatre and will continue to participate in play productions during university. Congratulation to Tad, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors!
