To be able to withstand the terror of delivering an idea, a perspective, or a thought in front of thousands of unfamiliar people is extraordinary.
Born with a strong and confident personality, Nicole Basran has never failed to showcase her excellence in public speaking. Currently in grade ten at Collingwood School, Nicole has captured the attention of many while being on the stages upon which most people do not dare to step. A phenomenal and passionate speaker, she has attributed her success to her family, for they provide her with endless support, encouragement, and motivation. In a family consisted of two lawyers and a former head boy, Ben Basran, not only do they constantly remind her of her abilities to do anything she pursues, but they also help her to develop her talent in the art of quick and focused speaking.
Nicole’s talent has strengthened over her nine years of active participation in speech events. She has delivered a variety of topics, including gender bias in the media and education for girls, in numerous competitions and events in which she has won many medals. Even though to many of us Nicole appears to be fluent in all aspects of public speaking, she expresses that the most challenging presentation she has ever given was a radio newscast, due to the great difficulties of delivering a speech on the spot.
Beyond public speaking, Nicole is an outstanding athlete. Her participation and devotion in field hockey, swimming, basketball, and track & field have earned her many achievements. Such can be assessed from the gold and silver medals she received in swimming provincials, basketball silver in regionals, and ISA champion in field hockey.
Overall, public speaking represents a big part of Nicole’s life. Nicole emphasizes its significance as “the opportunity to inform and influence people’s views and perspectives.”
