Each year, the art department ends the year with a year-end art show. Students from each art class or photography class showcase their art works in the hallways near the art rooms and parents are invited to attend this display of art. Each and every piece of art work is something that is meant to reflect a student’s inner thoughts. Each piece of art is done with care and passion.
This year, the arts department came up with an idea for the guests at the art show to leave with some of the art works they liked. There are about 75 artworks from students that are featured in the show across all art subjects and grade levels. There was even a selection of work from the art teachers. All of the artworks are printed onto postcard sized mementos that guests can buy. Because the idea of Postcards was last minute, not all of the artworks from students are printed on postcards but next year the art department is planning to organize it earlier and increase the amount of available work for guests to enjoy.
Every piece is 2 dollars and the art department managed to raise a total of 220 dollars. The money earned from this sale will be going to charity. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be going to the Vancouver Recovery Through Art, which is a program that helps people who are going through a rough time heal through art. This is for an amazing cause because art is something that should be shared; if the artworks are printed onto postcards, it can be carried around forever and shared with many people. The idea of postcards is to be sent away to someone that means something to an individual. Hopefully the postcards with the student’s artworks on them will be thought of often and treasured.
