The special thing about Sean Lee regarding his art, is that he does not think he is doing art. He replies nonchalantly to my questions, “what art?” as if unable to place himself in the realm of artists and unable to comprehend why I would even think of making such wild and unreasonable conclusions. And perhaps not all artists think of themselves as artists, for it is oftentimes a lifestyle that one does not even realize they are living until they are already intoxicated by it.
But on the other hand, I recall the Cuba art trip we went on, and a specific moment when Sean sat lounging in the hotel with a sketchbook, drawing crisp lines, contemplative, with a book by Franz Kafka at the foot of the seat. Despite his own denial, the exhaustive, delicate details, time, and effort he puts into each piece of work in art class is an explanation by itself. His art style is very textured and dynamic, his attitude towards music soulful and poignant, mellow.

Sean was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in West Vancouver. His beginnings in music started with the clarinet, but for reasons unknown to even himself Sean started playing the Saxophone in grade four. However he switched from alto to baritone sax in Grade 8. Sean’s favourite artist is Otis Jackson Jr. and his favourite music genre is hip hop. Sean has been in the West Vancouver youth band since Grade 4 with the exception of Grade 7 when he lived in Seattle for a year.
When inquired as to whether he had any hobbies other than art he replied, “not really”. However Sean is deeply involved in the art of video games and the art of making dragon rolls at the sushi restaurant he works at. Sean is a very passionate person, becoming deeply invested in anything of interest he begins. Sean also noted, “I don't like disclosing much about myself,” reinforcing the fact that he is shrouded in mystique and is a man of action, not words, very much like an eccentric artist.
