“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”
Whether it is through dance, painting or photography, Chloe Wang, a talented grade twelve student, is best at translating her emotions and ideas through art. There is vitality in her movements; every tilt of the head, stretch of an arm or stomp of the feet is uniquely linked to an eye-catching piece of performance by Chloe. Of course, such upbeat choreography is the reward of years and years of practices and experience.
Chloe Wang immigrated to Vancouver, Canada from Suzhou, China in 2011. Moving to Canada allowed her more freedom to pursue what she truly loves, including art and dance. Ever since she was four, she began experimenting with multiple kinds of dances, until she finally realized a couple of years ago that Hip-Hop is the one that interests her the most. According to Chloe, dance can provide an environment to spend time with like-minded people, with whom she can build long-lasting friendships. Furthermore, she believes that figuring out the choreography with her peers is an escape from the rest of her workload at school.
Without a doubt, Chloe Wang is one of the most outstanding members in the Collingwood Hip-Hop Crew. For the first semester, the members are divided into small groups to prepare for the student Choreography Show in December. Every group is required to select its own music and choreograph the entire piece using original moves and ideas. From everyone who saw the Dance Show, they all commented that Chloe definitely did a phenomenal job, from choosing the music to presenting the unique piece on stage.
During the second semester, the Hip-Hop Crew practices together to prepare for the year end show. Usually, the dance crew will do two pieces of dance that somewhat contrast one another in style and music. For the past two years of the Kay Meek Show, Chloe Wang has been the leading dancer. Many parts of the dance were actually choreographed and taught by her to other students!
Our amazing dancer is not only artistic, but she is also academically strong! Her dream to study architecture at Cornell University has come true after years of diligence. Unfortunately, Chloe explained that she probably will not be able to continue taking hip-hop classes at university, because the major she is pursuing has one of the most rigorous programs. Chloe does claim that, “I will still dance when I have free time, to simply have fun and release stress.” We hope that while Chloe is pursuing her architecture dream, she will also have time to fuel her passion for dance!
