Chloe Szybunka is a grade 11 student who has attended Collingwood School since kindergarten. She has one older sister named Hailey Szybunka. Chloe’s favorite subject is choir and she has performed several times for Collingwood. Aside from singing, Chloe enjoys playing field hockey. Some of her hobbies include making videos, biking, playing piano, and playing water sports.
Chloe believes that art is a very important part of life because it allows people to express themselves in a unique way. She says that “music brings people together and it’s like a language we can all speak”. Chloe is passionate about singing because it’s a way for her to show the way she feels. It also challenges her to try new music that she wouldn’t normally gravitate towards.
Chloe grew up with music around her from a young age. Chloe’s dad is very musical and he has influenced Chloe and her sister to sing and play instruments. Her message for future artists is: “Pursue something that makes you happy, and do something you find interesting every day and want to explore”.
Chloe enjoys many different genres of music. Both inside and outside of school, she sings many different types of songs. She enjoys classical music because she finds it to be challenging and to contain a lot of depth. However, on a day-to-day basis, she listens to pop and rap. Chloe is a dedicated singer who is going to always have music as a big part of her life.
Chloe is currently a part of the Collingwood choir class and has also completed Royal conservatory music exams. Each exam she has completed has taken around 10 months to prepare for with a vocal coach due to the difficulty and skills required for the exams. Royal conservatory exams require singers to know many languages such as French, Italian, English, and German. Also, singers must be able to sight read, perform difficult scales, and excel at more technical tests.
