On the evening of Wednesday, May 23rd, guests bustled around the Morven art wing, their eyes dazzled by the miscellany of phenomenal artworks, their ears immersed in the euphonic music from the performing band, and their taste buds filled with the refreshing scent of ice-cream. Held from 4-6 pm as usual, this year’s art show was assigned a unique theme, “Bloom”, which symbolized our budding artists burgeoning into blossoms.
The diverse scope of the art pieces ranged from idiosyncratic juxtapositions of surreal landscapes to realistic renderings of portrait shots. No matter the medium, style, or idea conveyed, every piece of artwork draws upon heartfelt insights from the artist, who might be a novice experimenting in a foreign field, or perhaps a proficient graduate pursuing design in university next year.
Among the positive feedback received by the art show, one student exclaimed that the show strove to accommodate the guests, and did so considerately and precisely. Indeed, guests were introduced to a variety of entertainment: decorating homemade cookies, designing buttons, printing onto the “bloom” poster, and experimenting with chalk. Delightful smiles crept onto students’ faces as they proudly pinned handmade buttons to their or their friend’s shirt.
The Collingwood Community and the Arts Magazine team would like to thank every single member of the Student Arts Committee, with a special shout-out to the art teachers that allocated their valuable time to organizing the event. By virtue of their countless hours of dedicated preparation, the awe-inspiring Bloom art show ran smoothly and left a meaningful indentation on the blooming artists and guests alike.
