Watching us dance is like hearing our hearts speak. The Collingwood year end dance show has come and gone again. Every year the dance show has a theme. This year’s theme is Welcome to Hollywood. Each dance is an expression of a movie from classics like Wizard of Oz to recent movies like Black Panther to musicals like La La Land. The opening shows girls walking into a theatre with popcorn and sitting down, waiting to enjoy the movie. Students have been preparing for this dance show since March and everyone is beyond excited to finally be able to share their dances. The dancers are from all dance classes, Junior Dance Company, Senior Dance Company and Hip Hop Crew. The year-end dance show is the second dance show of the year. It will take place in the Kay Meek theatre until the Student Choreographed dance show in December which takes place in the Darlene Howard theatre.
Every year, the Collingwood dance show contains the same excitement. From waiting patiently backstage to shining under the spotlights, the dance was not only for the audience but also for each and every dancer. For the grade 12s, it was their last time dancing on the stage in Kay Meek. Each and every moment was memorable and would be forever etched in their hearts. The dance show brought together dancers and create unity among them. Each person had a story to tell and the Collingwood dance show was a page in a book for each and every dancer. Life in Collingwood is a journey, the dance show was incredibly important to all of the dancers and artists.
Not only are the dancers the stars of the show, Ms Tench is the brightest of them all. She choreographed all of the dances and brought creativity, energy and enthusiasm onto the stage. The opening had a small scene of Superman but Ms Tench is the real Superwoman. They say that the more you use creativity, the more you have. This is certainly true in terms of choreographing; each dance contained more excitement and energy and it always seemed to be more entertaining than the last.
Each year, the dance show brings on a harmony of creativity and fun to the stage. It was an amazing experience, not only for the dancers, but for everyone helping out backstage and the audience watching. Each dance may seem like its own story, but every single one of them was tied together within the same theme – Welcome to Hollywood.
