Caitlin Todd is an artist, a creator, and a girl who has always had a love of Disney movies. She was born and raised in Vancouver and hopes to find her calling in illustrations (befitting given her fascination with Disney movies). When delving into Caitlin's portfolio, you can see much of Vancouver’s influence in her art. As she expressed, “I feel Vancouver itself is a very artistic city with beautiful landscape and inspiring colors all around”. Caitlin is refreshingly honest, down to earth, and casual about her talent, which she calls: “drawing by hand”. She admits that she does not even remember when she first picked up her doodling pencil, merely recollecting on how art has always been in her life. This is authenticated by the piles of sketchbooks both worn and new, filled and sparse, she cherishes.

In addition to art, Caitlin enjoy biking and hiking and occasionally steps into the world of sewing when she is " feeling crafty”. Caitlin modestly claims that her artistic endeavors encompass, “the few things that I like to think I’m good at so it’s a very big part of my life”, but as a bystander to her artistry, her skill is beyond the generalization of good. Perhaps fitting to the description would be beatific or enticing. You can tell by the way in which she withdraws into her own world when drawing, she radiates so much artistic passion.
If you have ever watched Tom Moore’s Song of the Sea (which she claims to be one of her favorite movies), you would understand the sort of charisma and aura she inflicts upon passerby, who come upon her art while she is immersed in her creative stages. It is reflective of a simple kind of beauty, one that touches upon the naivety in the innermost of your heart. “Tom Moore’s animation has inspired me, even more because of his watery ocean scenes based on Ireland, which I had the privilege of visiting last summer and he did an amazing job of recreating the look of Ireland”.
Caitlin’s advice to fellow artists is simple: “don’t overthink your ideas (which I do all the time)”, and shared that art does not have to always come from a place of darkness. At a personal level her art “tends to show emotions centered around positivity”.

When asked about her artmaking process, Caitlin shares she has a plethora of favored artistic mediums, ranging from: “ ink pens, pencils, prismacolor pencil crayons and watercolors”. Despite such diversity, she often enjoys using them all at once. Her art is often a breathe of fresh air, after laboring in the heavy atmosphere of more melancholy pieces. Her art takes on a very “illustrated/animated kind of look” which authenticates all the influence she draws from animated movies and illustrated books.
Caitlin has specified that art is something she will continue to pursue in the future and possibly ‘forever’. She remarks, “art is relaxing but it’s also challenging and it makes me happy”. Applying to major in visual arts for university we wish Caitlin the best of luck with her artistic pursuits!
