Oceana Sam is regularly seen on stage, but due to a serious injury she had to take a break from dancing for a while. However, that didn’t stop her from being a part of dance, in fact, she recently choreographed a dance that was showcased in the arts assembly.
Oceana started dancing in Grade 7, but took her dance to another level this past summer by joining a pre-professional program at Ballet Russe BC. She has been in countless shows, her last estimate being over twenty! And it’s no wonder as to why, Oceana finds dance as safe place to make friends, but also a medium for expressing her emotions whatever they may be.

Oceana began her dancing with ballet, which is a common start point for all dancers, but she stuck to it. Most dancers move away from ballet once they have a handle on the basics, but she has stuck with her ballerina pursuits. This year, Oceana broke her leg and ankle while turning on pointe. For those of you who don’t know, pointe is a positioning where the dancers is on the their tip-toes. Unfortunately, during her turn Oceana collapsed. Oceana plans to return to dance this summer, but won’t be back on pointe until the beginning of the next school year.
Oceana wants to leave you all with these words, “It is never too late to start dancing, there are plenty of dance schools in Vancouver with recreational and professional programs.”
