Tom Yang is an exceptional singer. A member of choir since the 9th Grade, he has been developing his tenor voice for years. Initially, Tom joined choir to fill up a course slot, but as time went on, the beautiful harmonies he and his fellow choirmates created allured him deeply. Now a graduating student, Tom continues to be an invaluable member of the school choir and an exceptional collaborator with whom his peers sing, conveying to us his passion, understanding, and love for music through his low, steady voice.
A singer capable of a variety of of songs, Tom’s music playlists are just as diverse. Growing up in China, he is more than familiar with C-pop—his favourite Chinese artists being Jay Chou and Joker Xue. Having immigrated to Canada in Grade 9, Tom has also developed a penchant for English pop-songs, rap, blues, electronic music, and many more. Some have had the pleasure of hearing him sing in person, and they all claimed they were blown away by the accuracy and carefulness he delivered in each note—something inherent, innate, and that cannot be taught.
This is talent.
In the art piece attached below, he sings “One More Light” by Linkin Park – one of his favourite songs currently, sang by one of his favourite bands. He likes the calming effects of the song; its mellow tone mixes well with his tenor voice. Sing on, Tom!
