As the Assistant to Ms. Evans, the Head of the Morven Campus, Jenna Beattie is not necessarily someone whom students have the opportunity to interact with, unless they are stopping in to see Ms. Evans. Apart from being a responsible and resourceful individual in the Collingwood Faculty, Jenna Beattie also embodies extreme creativity. Ever since she was young, she has been exploring with multiple media, such as acrylic, watercolor, oils, pastels and clay.

Growing up in Lions Bay has allowed Jenna Beattie to enjoy nature. In Howe Sound, she is able to capture almost every beautiful moment of the faint landscape on cloudy days and the ephemeral sunrise on bright mornings. During her free time as a child, Jenna Beattie spent hours doodling and painting animals, especially horses and whales. She also studied pictures of different animals in books, so her drawings could be more realistic.
The most significant source of inspiration for Ms. Beattie has probably been natural landscapes. Every summer, she has spent at least three weeks on her boat to enjoy the coasts. In addition to appreciating mountains and waters, she goes horseback riding in the Cariboo with her mother on an annual basis. She admits that her surroundings have definitely inspired her to frequently draw mountains, rivers and landscapes.
In terms of painting, Ms. Beattie explained that, “[she] likes to use acrylic paints the most because [she] finds them very forgiving.” She believes that the best part of acrylic is that it allows her to revisit and improve her pieces with a fresh eye. Of course, being able to alter minor details provides magnificent finishing touches.
Painting is not her only artistic outlet. Recently, Ms. Beattie became interested in designing and handcrafting her own jewelry. She follows online videos to create earrings, bracelets and necklaces with wood beads, shells, crystal stones and glass. Ms. Beattie declares that she loves hand-making jewelry, because “[she] can create anything [she] wants with any combination or colors, materials”.
Ms. Beattie aspires to always be doing something creative, whether it be drawing, painting or making jewelry. She will continue her passion for art and learn more techniques to further her artistic skills. Ms. Beattie shares that the best part of art is “seeing everything come together after a lot of hard work”.
