Emma Johnson is a multidisciplinary artist at Collingwood School, having many different talents spanning across all forms of artistry. Emma had attended an artistically based school before coming to Collingwood; however, here she has engaged in everything from wood working, textile, painting, poetry, drawing, cooking and even pottery. She explains that although she has wandered between these artistic mediums, she occasionally will retreat to her initial artistic foundation and “knit a scarf or make a loaf of bread”.

She explains that although she has wandered between these artistic mediums, she occasionally will retreat to her initial artistic foundation and “knit a scarf or make a loaf of bread”.
Her primary area of focus throughout her experimental endeavors however, is that of digital and analog photography and film. Emma describes this passion as one she, “cannot let go of”. Although she has interest for other areas of art, the digital world has become her artistic home. Where did it all begin? Emma explains her past as always being surrounded by artistic minds, so the phenomenon of creating was “sort of second nature” to her. She has been pursuing photography for 4 years now. She has come along way from her initial photography on an old Pentax camera. While taking a film course, Emma was able to develop all of her original film as well as enlarge her photographs on site. Filming, although a more recent endeavor for Emma, has become quite significant in her artistic life. She describes her experience in film so far as merely, “skimming the surface”. Emma explains that she came about film making through the unusual combination of her love of photography and music, for film “fuses the two worlds of imagery and music”.
That isn’t all. Emma’s other talents also include; graphic design, water color painting, micron pen doodles, dance and even musical theater. Emma began dance in her grade 10 year at Collingwood and participated in everything from the student choreography show to the annual year end show. She has also taken a leap into musical theater, having been a part of the successful Grease production at Collingwood that last year.
Emma plans to continue her art making after high school and is considering post secondary options of photojournalism, fine art photography or possibly filmmaking. For now though, she only knows for sure that she has plans to “travel the world, make too much art and just live life”.
