Introducing Eve Parry. Some may know her as one of Collingwood's most notable alumni, excelling in all four strands since grade school, becoming a pillar in the Collingwood legacy. Others may know her as a friendly face throughout the halls during her thirteen years at Collingwood, known as a jubilant friend, student and mentor for students and teachers alike. However, my relationship with Eve is a little different. I met her on my first day on Earth - introduced as my older sister. Little did I know that Eve would soon become much more than a sister to me: a best friend, a comedian, an inspiration and more recently, an artist.
To begin, let us begin to understand the daily life of Eve, including her hobbies, interests and passions. Graduating in June of 2023, Eve is a rising sophomore at the London School of Economics and Political Science, completing her Honours Bachelor of Sciences Dual-Degree in International Relations and History. With a fervid passion for global affairs, legality, history, and humanitarian aid, Eve's long-term goals included becoming a political consultant, pundit, and public servant. However, Eve's love of learning has growingly pushed her to pursue multi-disciplinary ambitions encompassing the fine arts and their study. Eve aims to integrate Art History and Cultural Criticism into her future endeavours. In Eve's words, "art has no barriers or frontiers - it is intrinsic to and ever-present in all aspects of my life."
My early years as a teenager led me to watch Eve enter many running competitions, doing upwards of 10K every weekend morning. She is a dedicated runner, having joined the London Marathon, and is on her dozenth pair of running shoes. Residing in London, England, Eve enjoys daily jogs through Regent's Park, where she derives inspiration from urban nature. A lover of music, Eve perpetually plays disparate genres: 70s rock, West Coast grunge, R&B, and jazz, from the white boom-box situated in her dorm room. With a stunning view of central Bloomsbury, Eve frequently people-watches, taking great interest in the overlooked, subtle, day-to-day actions of others. Eve describes herself as an "ardent reader,” currently enjoying the Surrealist short stories of Argentinian author Silvina Ocampo. Incredibly social and surprisingly daring, Eve occasionally partakes in various recreational activities, some reckless, searching for thrill and meaning. She has always been a thrill-seeking human, placed on this planet to thrive and live a life full of excitement. Eve, furthermore, is a frequent museum-goer. With her residence in London, Eve regularly explores and re-explores the Tate, British Museum, National Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, alongside many others. Also, her years of travelling to far and wide places have allowed her to visit numerous museums: the Louvre, the Rijksmuseum, the MoMa, and the Musée d'Orsay, among many others.
Born in Montreal, Eve appreciated cosmopolitanism, cultural tradition, and community from a young age. Balancing East-Coast and West-Coast, Eve considers herself simultaneously a country and city girl, enjoying the spectrum of man-made and organic realities intrinsic to the world and civilization.
Eve's formative education started and ended at Collingwood School. Words cannot articulate her gratitude for Collingwood - especially its outstanding faculty - for unlocking her intellect and broadening her horizons. A humanist at heart, Eve thinks of her social sciences, linguistic, and art courses with great appreciation. Art History and Art, Human Geography, Economics, World and European History, English Language, English Literature, and French are few of many transformative courses that nuanced Eve's curiosity for the world.

Concerning Eve's artistic interests, "all artistic genres and movements occupy a piece of my heart." She is fascinated and in awe of everything ─ prehistoric symbolic representations, the fleetingness of impressionism, lithograph's linearity, and abstract expressionism's attempts to find clarity in chaos. Currently, Eve is on a never-ending mission to develop and fine-tune her individualistic style. Eve adores photography, frequently using her 35mm Harman film camera to capture fragments of others in her life. Eve uses every medium: acrylics, watercolour, ink, pencil crayons, and collage, in her works. She would categorise her art as less thematic and more spontaneous. The type of art she creates depends on the kind of mood she's in and the kind of inspiration she's accumulating.
Eve believes that art is "more than a medium; art is a messenger ─ it is ever-present in all facets of life. As representational thinkers, humans are biologically hard-wired to speak in images ─ something largely overlooked yet widely known." As a historian, Eve regularly examines space and time to see what factors influence the course of history and why. Art ─ as propaganda, as peace-offering, as commission, as commentary ─ is one of the primary influences, and for that reason, she loves it.
Eve is inspired by everything ─ both the most inanimate objects and the most lively people. Nature, indeed, would be a mentionable force, as are people. Portraiture is incredibly fascinating for Eve ─ she enjoys attempting to be present with her subjects through examining their expressions, glances, and body language. She loves to juxtapose reality with idealized versions of it, contrasting magazine editorials with her own erroneous and inaccurate sketches. Everything is art, and art is everything!
Eve's always been an artistic, visual person, deriving tremendous joy from colouring from a young age. Art History, and Eve's interest in understanding the people behind the pieces, ironically furthered her interest in the pieces. Understanding the meanings behind specific artworks helped expand her interest in their mediums. Art has always been one of few constants in Eve's life. Operating an art Instagram account, @artbyevelyne, Eve hopes to continue to share her love of art, art history, and multimedia with her close community.
