Meet Bella Szeto, a talented visual artist born in Vancouver who has been attending Collingwood since junior kindergarten. Bella specializes in drawing and painting, and she has recently picked up photography as well. Outside of her artistic pursuits, she has also been playing soccer since the age of 5. Bella likes to bake, hike, and run. Throughout Bella’s childhood, she has always been inspired by her dad. He came from a modest upbringing and built his career through his tenacity and effort. Bella takes pride in her dad’s growth and sees him as a role model for her future.

The freedom and liberty of the process of creating pieces are one of Bella’s favorite aspects of art, as well as seeing the culmination of all her hard work in the end result. Bella’s favorite styles of art include realism and depictions of gastronomy. She is fond of using Prismacolor colored pencils. When Bella’s art relates to her personal hobbies and interests, she sees it as an expression of feelings and personality. In her case, she likes creating pieces to do with baking, and specifically enjoys including lots of colour in her art.

Bella wants to remind budding artists that in the end, practice makes perfect, and to trust and have fun with the process. Through school, she has improved her technique by following the visual art classes and doing art projects. Over the years, art has helped her become more creative and think outside the box. Bella hopes that this creative outlet will continue to help her consider multiple perspectives when tackling challenges, and plans to keep art as a hobby in the future.
