Ben Heine is a Belgian multidisciplinary visual artist who creates and produces drawings, paintings, digital art, photographs, and music. Of the projects he undertakes, such as "Digital Circlism" and "Flesh and Acrylic," he is arguably best known for his original "Pencil VS Camera" art. In "Pencil VS Camera," Ben Heine holds a fictional hand-drawn sketch in front of a realistic everyday background and photographs it to create a refreshing visual that often has a deeper meaning. His hand is always in the frame to represent the connection between the viewer, the artist, and the artwork. A few weeks ago, students in French 11 and 11 Enriched classes had the incredible opportunity to meet Mr. Heine. In preparation for this event, the students created their own "Pencil VS Camera" art pieces. During the meeting, Mr. Heine analyzed the students' work, complimented their strengths, and advised them on where to improve. What's more, the students had the chance to ask Mr. Heine questions about his art, process, and experiences. Overall, the students of French 11 Enriched had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which they will remember for years to come!
