Charlotte Anderson, class of 2020, left a memorable impression on the performing arts program at Collingwood. Her incredible creativity in music and her beautiful voice truly brought Collingwood’s music program to life during her 13 years at the school.
This year, Charlotte is in her first year at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Voice Performance and is grateful to have had the chance to work with several renowned teachers and guest artists during her time there so far. Despite most of her classes being online, Charlotte has still had an amazing experience in Toronto and has found herself surrounded by new sources of inspiration in her everyday life. “The little things, like the sunsets, the colourful houses in my neighbourhood, and my growing plant collection” are just a few of the inspirations that bring light to her life. This new adventure in Toronto has also helped Charlotte develop more courage and the confidence to become more honest and vulnerable in her musical performances.
Outside of school, Charlotte has also been busy with creating her own album, as well as a podcast called ‘Lady Lazarus,’ which we are super excited to hear more about in the future! Beyond her graduation, Charlotte now plans to go into voice full-time. She has certainly discovered her passion during her time in Toronto, and she currently hopes to live in Italy someday, surrounded by culture and inspiration for her musical career.
To anybody hoping to pursue music after high school, Charlotte enthusiastically encourages it, saying that despite all of the auditioning, the effort definitely pays off in following your passion. According to Charlotte, pursuing music is just as valid as pursuing any other major, even if people tell you otherwise, and “the world needs more talented artists”.
Having left her time at Collingwood behind, Charlotte would like to thank Mr. Buchan and Mr. Smith. She says she could not have gotten to the place she is now without their support and that “they always believed in me, supported me, and encouraged me. We’re so lucky to have them at Collingwood; I couldn’t imagine a better music department!”
